Jillian Guerin @jillzguerin
Hi!! Here it is! 🙂
Hey friends! My name is Jillian, but most people just call me Jillz. I’m a holistic health + nutrition coach and I help tired and overwhelmed woman get healthier, happier and finally feel like themselves again. It’s something I’m truly passionate about, but one thing’s for sure…I didn’t expect to be where I am today. In fact, I was on track to be a successful corporate finance badass. Well, that was until I got sick and it turned my world upside down.
But to be honest, looking back I’m not too surprised this happened. I grew up on fast food (Taco Bell and McDonald’s were my jam!), and as a young adult, I was completely unable to cook for myself except for making a boxed pizza in the oven. I had zero understanding of the power of a healthy diet and how healing food can be. While working my corporate job, I wasn’t sleeping enough or taking care of my body, was extremely stressed and had negative thoughts + persistent anxiety.
I suffered from so many “little” problems here and there for several years but just chose to ignore them or solve them by over the counter medicine. Hormone imbalance, heartburn, acne, anxiety, digestive distress, and flu after flu, I was slowly losing a sense of who I was.
And then one day, I woke up to the feeling of something painful and strange in my bladder. Long start short, I developed an autoimmune disease of the bladder (interstitial cystitis) and it was….horrible. The amount of psychological distress this caused me was on another level (think a permanent, raging UTI…yeah, no fun). Unfortunately, doctors had no solutions for me.
However, if you know me, you might know that I can be extremely persistent. When I’m really passionate about something, I will not take no for an answer. So, I decided to find the answer myself. Through countless research, I discovered that the only people who have “cured” this disease was through natural and holistic methods. So, that’s what I was going to do!
It took some time (very typical for autoimmune issues), but a year and a half later I was 99.9% better, and I was so unbelievably happy. I had my life back, and through the process of healing, I completely fell in love with nutrition and living a healthy, holistic lifestyle.
I was constantly reading educational and inspiring books, and all of the Instagram accounts I followed moved from fashion to healthy cooking and living (that’s when you know it’s serious LOL). I was having a major life shift and I knew deep down that this was happening for a reason…that I was meant to learn something valuable from this.
When I thought hard about it, I knew that if I never went through this tough experience, I would have never discovered my passion for nutrition and healthy living. I also most likely would have lived a shorter and unhappy life — what a blessing in disguise.
Yes, it was tough, full of setbacks and moments where I wanted to give up. But the voice in my head told me to keep pushing for a better life for myself…and I just couldn’t ignore it.
The thing is is that everyone encounters similar setbacks at some point in their life. It might not be health-related, but massive setbacks nonetheless that stop them in their tracks and derail their life plans.
What’s important though is how you see them and react to them.
When these setbacks occur, ask yourself:
What can I learn from this?
What is this trying to teach me?
What is it opening my eyes to that I haven’t yet noticed or fully understood before?
And while you’re in the process of growing and learning, make sure to express gratitude for what you DO have, be open to new experiences and trust that the universe is guiding you for a reason.
Sometimes experiencing deep transformations and learning life’s biggest lessons is not necessarily fun. But, they are critical in truly finding yourself, your passions, and how you can positively impact the world.
